3. Federal University Oye, Ekiti

As a result of the contradiction that exists in Nigeria about the superiority of a BSc degree over an HND degree, many graduates of Polytechnics are looking into methods in which their credentials as an HND holder may be transformed into a BSc degree.

This is because of the present system in Nigeria. In spite of the efforts made by the government to close the gap in education that exists between a BSc and an HND.

The majority of Nigeria’s institutions have not adopted this strategy.

This is made abundantly clear by the fact that companies chose BSc degrees over their HND equivalents more often than not.

As a result of this circumstance, educational establishments located all across Nigeria have initiated programs that provide applicants with the opportunity to upgrade their HND certificate to a BSc degree.

6. Ajayi Crowther University

Ajayi Crowther University usually referred to as ACU, is a private institution of higher learning which is situated in Oyo State, Nigeria.

The Ajayi Crowther University was founded by the Supra Diocesan Board (West) of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).

The university’s roots may be traced back to the former CMS (Christian Missionary Society) training center in Abeokuta as well as the defunct St. Andrews College in Oyo.

Originally founded as the CMS Training Institution in Abeokuta, the University moved to its current location in Lagos in the year 1853. (1868 to 1896).

It was originally established in March 1896 in Oyo, and in 1920 it was moved there retroactively.

St. Andrews College, Oyo began by producing holders of the Grade II Teachers Certificate.

Between 1910 and 1942, the Divinity Course, which trains church ministers, was added to the curriculum.

At the same time, the proprietorship of the College was transferred from CMS, London to the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).

The Church of Nigeria lost her proprietorship of the College in 1977 when the government of Nigeria took over the governance and administration of all schools within the Nigerian Federation. As a result of this change, the College was no longer owned by the Church of Nigeria.

The involvement of the St. Andrews College Old Boys Association (SACOBA), and by extension the interest of the Church, in the expansion and improvement of St. Andrews did not, however, diminish with time.

As a result, in response to the petition submitted by SACOBA, the government that was in place in Oyo State at the time elevated the Institution to an NCE campus in 1980 and then to a full-fledged college of education in 1985.

SACOBA submitted a request to the Church of Nigeria on September 7, 1999, and on that day, the Church of Nigeria agreed to SACOBA’s proposal to create Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo on the grounds of the old St. Andrews College, Oyo, with the Church serving as the institution’s owner.

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) was awarded the license to operate as a Private University in Nigeria on January 7, 2005.

This came about as a result of the institution’s successful completion of all of the stringent requirements that were outlined by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the establishment of universities in Nigeria.

Samuel Ajayi Crowther was the first African Bishop and the one who translated the Bible into Yoruba.

The University bears his name in honor of Samuel Ajayi Crowther, who passed away.

His ministry extended over the whole of the West African sub-continent.

The Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Folorunsho Asaju served as the university’s Vice-Chancellor in the past. His term was set to run from 2015 to 2020.

During the time when Ajayi Crowther was in charge of the university, it saw a period of remarkable expansion, with the addition of several new faculties.

The NUC gave its approval to an additional number of courses.
